Béton Provincial Ltée of Quebec City, the largest Canadian-owned company in cement and concrete, has closed on a major asset transaction with CRH Canada Group Inc., netting: the Ash Grove Cement mill in Joliette, Quebec, plus one Solvay, N.Y., two Greater Montreal and three Labrador or Newfoundland terminals; nine Demix Béton ready mixed plants, seven in Greater Montreal, two in the Quebec City region; plus, Demix Agrégats Mirabel and Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur quarries serving the Montreal market. The Ash Grove mill will operate as Ciment St-Laurent or St. Lawrence Cement, reviving a historically recognized brand in Quebec, the Atlantic Provinces and Northeast states.

The CRH Canada and Ash Grove assets position Béton Provincial with 2,700-plus employees, many of them running 94 ready mixed concrete plants and a 700-mixer truck fleet, along with five precast concrete and 21 asphalt plants. With its extensive network of strategic contact points, Béton Provincial now operates one of the largest heavy building materials distribution businesses in eastern North America. By strengthening its vertical integration capabilities, the company is diversifying its product offerings and gaining better supply chain control. The CRH Canada and Ash Grove transaction likewise bolsters Béton Provincial’s ability to implement innovative projects in green concrete, thereby contributing to the transition to a more sustainable and responsible industry.
